2020-2024 Shift Provisions/Sack Lunch Specifications

Primary Entree - 1 Sandwich/Wrap

  • The sandwich shall contain a minimum of 1.5 oz. of bread or bread equivalent 

  • The meat sandwich shall contain a minimum of 3 oz. protein with a minimum of 2 oz sliced whole muscle or variety meat or a combination of meat and 1 oz cheese or combination of two meats

  • The Vegetarian primary meal must consist of a minimum of 1 sandwich or wrap and shall contain 3 oz. of a non-meat protein.

  • Appropriate individually packaged condiments shall be provided and not be put directly on the sandwich. 

Food Bar - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 150 to 300 calories, 15-30 g carbs, and 10 g protein

  • Examples: R Bar, Rx Bar, Kind Protein Bar, Clif Bar, Nugo Bar, Tahoe Trail Bar, Premier Protein Bar, Kirkland Protein Bar, Nature Valley Protein Bar, etc.

Snack Bar - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 100-200 calories and 25-30 g carbohydrates

  • Examples: Kind Bars, Nutrigrain Bars, Nature Valley Bars, etc.

Candy/Cookie/Dessert - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 150-300 calories and 15-30 g carbohydrates

  • Examples: Candy bars, Grandmas Cookies, Lenny & Larry’s Complete Cookie bar, etc.

Chips/Pretzels/Crackers - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 100-250 calories and 20-30 g carbs

  • Examples: Baked potato chips, pretzels, individual bags of crackers, etc.

Alternative Protein - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 50 to 200 calories and greater than 5 grams of protein

  • Examples: Tuna, jerky, hard-boiled eggs, roasted chickpeas, hummus, nut butters, etc.

  • Protein bars cannot be used as an alternative protein.

Nuts/Seeds/Trail Mix - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 200-300 calories, less than 25 grams of carbs, greater than 5 grams of protein

  • Examples: trail mix packets, almonds, cashews, peanuts, macadamia nuts, sunflower seeds, etc.

Trial Item - 1 Serving

  • Requirements: 150-300 calories, 15-30 grams of carbohydrates

  • May include a variety of food items and types including examples listed above and other miscellaneous items which meet specifications

Fruits and Vegetables - 3 Servings

  • Must include at leasat one fruit and one vegetable

  • Mininum serving size for fruit or vegetables is 1/2 cup

Notes

Regular and vegetarian sack lunches shall be provided as ordered by the FDUL. Vegetarian sack lunches shall be prepared for the Ovo-Lacto vegetarian classification level and shall consist of the same quantities and items as regular sack lunches.

To ensure variety, shift food items shall not be repeated in a three day period.

Condiments

Four individual factory-wrapped packets of condiments appropriate for the items being served.

Paper Napkin and Pre-Moistened Towelettes

Two Each.
